The Coalman
John Burgess, a coalman, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Milford Lane, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1898; Obv inscription: IOHN.BVRGESS.COALMAN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A man carrying a sack of coal (in field); Rev inscription: IN.MILFORD.LANE.1666 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
