The Bunch of Grapes
George Waples issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the Old Bunch of Grapes tavern, in Houndsditch.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1531; Obv inscription: GEO.WAPLES.YE.OLD.BVNCH (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A bunch of grapes (in field); Rev inscription: IN.HOVNSDICH (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = G.A.W. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
The issuer may have been, George Waples, Haberdasher, flourished 1660, see Percival Boyd, [Inhabitants of London]. Society of Genealogists, MS. 25485.
