The Golden Falcon
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the sign of the Golden Falcon, at Holborn Bridge, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1445. Obv inscription: AT.THE.GOLDEN.FAIKEN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A falcon (in field); Rev inscription: AT.HOLBORNE.BRIDGE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = T.T.P. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
The issuer was Thomas Pargiter, to whom the sign was leased in 1661, the premises was destroyed in the Great fire, at which time Pargiter did not rebuild the property, see (Fire Court: Calendar to the Judgments and Decress of the Court of Judicature appointed to determine Differences between Landlords and Tenants as to rebuilding after the Great Fire, ed. Philip E. Jones (London,1966-, ii.60-2).
