The Star
Robert Kemble, a baker issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Star, in Gray's Inn Lane (now Gray's Inn Road), Holborn, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1252; Obv inscription: ROBERT. KEMBLE. BAKER. AT. THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A star (in field); Rev inscription: STARR.IN.GRAIES.INN.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENNY / 1667 (in four lines of Roman capitals, in field).
Gray's Inn Lane (now Gray's Inn Road), lies in the London Borough of Camden, having formerly been part of Middlesex.
