The Oil Flask
Lydia Dunwell issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for her business at the sign of the oil flask, in Gray's Inn Lane (now Gray's Inn Road), Holborn, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1246; Obv inscription: LYDIA.DVNWELL.AT.YE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = An oil-flask (in field); Rev inscription: IN.GRAIES.INNE.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HER / HALFE / PENY / 1668 (in four lines of Roman capitals, in field).
