Printed Ephemera — 1905-1914
Christabel Pankhurst
Photograph of Christabel Pankhurst.
Christabel Pankhurst was Organizing Secretary of the WSPU, the suffrage organisation founded in 1903 by her mother Emmeline Pankhurst. The two women led the WSPU, using militant tactics, such as heckling politicians and smashing windows, to campaign for female enfranchisement and to gain publicity for their cause. Christabel’s talent for public speaking gained them many supporters. She was imprisoned several times for her suffragette activities.
