The Bible
William Sheares, a bookseller issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the sign of the Bible in Covent Garden, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 745; Obv inscription: FEARE.GOD.HONOR.YE.KING (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A Bible (in field); Rev inscription: IN.COVENT.GARDEN.58 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.S (in field, in Roman capitals).
William Sheares, bookseller, at the Bible, in Bedford Street, Covent Garden, in 1661, as a frontispiece to some of his publications, prefixed an engraving of his sign, a Bible, with W.S., surrounded by the motto: "FEARE GOD . Covent Garden lies in the London borough of Camden, and City of Westminster, having formerly been part of Middlesex.
