The Prince of Wales' Feathers
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at The Three Feathers tavern, in Charing Cross, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 549; Obv inscription: AT.YE.FETHERS.OVER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = The Prince of Wales' feathers (in field); Rev inscription: AGAINST.YE.MVES (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = R.L (in field, in Roman capitals).
The tavern name is recognisable by the use of the Prince of Wales' feathers (three feathers) as its symbol. There are two similar tokens in the museum collection, A11322 and NN16655. The neighbourhood of the Mews (now Trafalgar Square), lies in the City of Westminster, having formerly been part of Westminster, Middlesex.
