Christ's Passion
Devotional badge depicting the instruments of Christ’s Passion (the events around the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his sufferings). This thin copper alloy badge would have been sewn onto its owner’s hat. This badge shows Christ on a cross in the centre, wearing the crown of thorns. In the top left corner is a pair of pliers and three nails beneath a star; in the bottom left is the cock that crowed and a pillar; on the bottom right are three dice; at the top right is a scourge or flail under a crescent moon. The cross is flanked on the left by a spear and on the right by a reed-sceptre.
