Printed Ephemera — 1908-1912
Mrs. Mansel
Postcard with photographic portrait of Mildred Mansel (1868-1942) holding a copy of the Women's Social and Political Union newspaper 'Votes for Women'. Beneath is printed 'Mrs. Mansel, Women's Social and Political Union' and the organisation's address. The front of the card is signed across the bottom right corner "M.E. Mansel".
Mansel was the daughter of suffragette Adeline Chapman. She was a member of the Women’s Social and Political Union and in 1910 became the organizer in Bath. Mansel was arrested on a couple of occasions for her suffragette activities. Her cousin, Ivor Guest, the Liberal Chief Whip, was opposed to female suffrage.
