The Golden Barbican
William Sanders issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the sign of The Golden Anchor, at Barbican.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 124; Obv inscription: WILL.SANDERS.AT.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.M.S. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: GOLDEN.BARBICAN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = An anchor between W.S (in field, in Roman capitals).
There is another similar token in the museum collection, A11359. The Barbican lies in Aldersgate Ward and the ward of Cripplegate Without, in the City of London.
