Manuscript warrant on Irish church officers signed by Oliver Cromwell as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, dated 5 May 1650. Cromwell arrived in Ireland in 1649 with his troops to crush resistance there, and brutally massacred garrisons at Drogheda and Wexford. He instigated a crackdown on the public practice of Catholicism, and confiscated land from those opposed to his parliament, especially Irish Catholics.
