Public Meeting at Brockley. Women's Social and Political Union.
Printed handbill announcing a public meeting to commemorate the release of the Suffragette Caroline Townsend from Holloway Prison. Organised by the Womens Social and Political Union the event took place at the Presbyterian Hall in Brockley, south London on 25th March 1909. Guest speaker at the event was Helen Ogston.
Caroline Townsend was joint honorary secretary of the Lewisham branch of the Women's Social and Political Union. In 1909 she was sentenced to a month in Holloway prison for 'wilfully obstructing the police' during a Suffragette deputation to Parliament. Helen Ogston was a salaried organiser for the WSPU.
