Spin and Old Maid
Pack of 49 pictorial cards intended for the games Spin and Old Maid. There cards form sets representing figures from various ethnic groups including Indian, Japanese, British, African, Turkish and North American Indian. The cards were sold by the International Card Company who placed advertising cards in the pack. The pictorial cards show some of the negative stereotypes of the time. For example, the Indian prince is depicted as a coward who kills a small mouse with a huge sword, while the Japanese King is shown effeminately fanning himself.
