Charles Dickens chair
Buttoned leather upholstered chair with turned wooden legs decorated with acanthus leaves. The chair was probably presented to Charles Dickens by the photographer George Herbert Watkins who took a number of portraits of the author in 1858. It may previously have been used as a prop in the photographer's studio in Regent Street. It is believed Dickens used the chair whilst writing the novel a Tale of Two Cities at his home in Gads Hill, Kent.
