Shell, carapace of hawksbill turtle
Shell of a hawksbill turtle. Tortoiseshell and turtle-shell was imported through London's docks for the manufacture of combs and other decorative items. The most highly valued came from the seas around Indonesia, though shell was also imported from the West Indies.
