Bowl
Decorated samian ware bowl, form Dragendorff 29, stamp: OF PASSEN inside base, the mark of the potter Passienus of La Graufesenque, South Gaul. With moulded decoration consisting of a festooned frieze above infilled block panels and more festoons and animal figures. This pot was excavated at St Swithin's House, Walbrook in 1949-1950 and was found in a layer of burnt daub, which may represent the burning of Londinium by Boudica in AD60/61. Samian ware is high-quality Roman tableware made in Gaul (modern-day France) and exported throughout the empire.
