Port & River — 1948-1950
British Sailors Society Indian Pakistani & Bangladesh Seamen's Club
This painted metal sign was previously hung at the entrance to the Mission to Foreign Seamen building at the port at Tilbury, Essex. It was rescued by the Museum when the building was demolished in 1987. Originally known as the British and Foreign Sailor's Society, the Mission had been renamed the British Sailor's Society by 1948. Since 1995 it has been called the British and International Sailor's Society and continues to work for the 'material, moral and spiritual welfare of seafarers in ports throughout the world'.
