Auger, shell auger
A 30cm shell auger from the workshop of Davey & Co., ship chandlers, in the West India Dock Road, Tower Hamlets. A shell auger is used with a lathe for boring a deep hole in wood. The flat tip is cast with a small blade set at an angle for cutting into the wood.
