Coin, solidus
Gold solidus coin of Emperor Justinian, ruler of the Byzantine Empire, AD 527-565. The back of the coin depicts Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory. This coin was minted in Constantinople (modern day Istanbul, Turkey), AD 527-538.
Obv: Forward facing, helmeted, cuirassed bust of Justinian, carrying a sword over his right shoulder. Obv inscription: DN IVSTINIANVS PF AVG. Rev: Victory, standing left, holding a cross in her right hand. Rev inscription: VICTORI AAVGGGA, * in field, COMOB in exergue.
