Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius coin of Emperor Trajan, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 98-117. The back of the coin depicts Trajan being crowned by Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 104-111.
Obv: Laureate bust of Trajan, facing right, left shoulder draped. Obv inscription: IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC PM TR P COS V PP. Rev: Trajan, standing left, holding a thunderbolt in his right hand and a reversed, vertical spear in the left. Behind, to the right, Victory is crowning Trajan with her right hand and holding a palm in the left. Rev inscription: SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI, SC in exergue.
