Coin, denarius
A silver denarius coin of Emperor Vespasian, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 69-79. The back of the coin depicts Mars, the Roman god of war. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 70.
Obv: Laureate head of Vespasian, facing right. Obv inscription: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG. Rev: Mars, advancing right, holding a transverse spear in his right hand and a military trophy over his left shoulder. Rev inscription: COS ITER TR POT. Part of a hoard from Queen Victoria Street, City of London.
