Post-Medieval — Mid-late 12th century
Miniature bridge-spouted tripod ewer
A complete spouted toy ewer with short tripod feet. It is decorated with a diaper pattern with pellets, cross-hatching and scales. This toy jug imitates full-sized pottery jugs that were available at the time; the feet are short stumps like those typically found on London-type ware pitchers. Ewers would have been used for pouring water for washing diners' hands after meals. Reference: Forsyth, H. & Egan, G. (2005): Toys, Trifles & Trinkets. Base metal miniatures from London 1200 to 1800, pg. 285, cat. no. 8.114.
