Rich Pickings
Leon Kuhn is a London artist with a strong political outlook. In this montage, Conservative Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher towers above a panoramic view of London. She showers the City with pound notes as pigeons in bowler hats and a top-hatted vulture swoop to collect their 'rich pickings'.
This image is Kuhn's comment on the government's support of big business and international finance during the 1980s. It depicts the 'Iron Lady' as a leader larger than life, whose policies had an enormous impact on London.
Kuhn completed Rich Pickings around the time of Thatcher's third and final general election victory in 1987. The work was published in a dummy-run of the short-lived left-wing tabloid newspaper, the News on Sunday.
