Coin, sestertius

A copper alloy sestertius coin of Faustina the Younger, empress to Marcus Aurelius, AD 161-180. She was the daughter of Emperor Antoninus Pius, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 138-161. The back of the coin depicts the Roman goddess Juno, protector and patron goddess of Rome and Roman women. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 157-164.

Obv: Draped and bare-headed bust of Faustina II, facing right. Obv inscription: FAVSTINA AVGVSTA. Rev: Juno, standing front, head left, extending her right hand over a child standing left, and holding a child in the left arm, a third child is standing beside her to the right, both standing children have their right arms raised. Rev inscription: IVNONI LVCINAE, SC in field.
