Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius coin issued by Emperor Commodus, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 177-192. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 180, to commemorate the death of his father, Marcus Aurelius, Emperor of the Roman Empire, AD 161-180.
Obv: Bare head of Marcus Aurelius, facing right. Obv inscription: DIVVS M ANTONINVS PIVS. Rev: A funeral pyre in four tiers, garlanded and adorned with statues, including a statue of Marcus Aurelius in a quadriga. Rev inscription: [CONSECRATIO], SC in field.
