Prehistoric — Late Bronze Age
Battleaxe
This battle axe was found in the Thames. It is made from a type of stone not found in Britain. However, similar axes were being made in Germany and the Netherlands during this period, so it must have been imported from Europe. The Late Bronze Age was a time when people were making tools and weapons from metal rather than stone. So the axe was probably made for a ritual or religious purpose, rather than for fighting.
