Boot, ankle boot
A pair of men’s gold and black mock snakeskin ankle boots with pointed toe and Cuban heels. Open tab front with a high tongue; self-material strap and silver metal buckle across front fastening. The decorative buckle, strap loop and strap point are embossed with images of a Steer’s head and horse shoes. Stamped on the interior heel base is ‘MADE/IN/ENGLAND’; impressed on the under sole of the boot is ‘WARRENTED/British/Manufacture’.
These ‘Rockabilly’ style boots were produced as a one off sample for Johnson’s, sold in Kensington Market in the late 1970s. They represent a post-punk, pre-glam era of menswear in London. Johnson’s was a celebrated boutique patronised by popular musicians and celebrates, and their followers, during the 1960s-1990s.
The pair is 96.22/1a-b.
