A copper alloy sestertius coin of Emperor Trajan, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 98-117. The back of the coin depicts Roma, the female personification of Rome. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 104-111.
Obv: Laureate bust of Trajan, facing right, left shoulder draped. Obv inscription: IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC [PM TR P COS V PP]. Rev: Roma, standing left, holding Victory in her extended right hand and a reversed, vertical spear in the left, before her a Dacian; an inhabitant of an ancient region of Central Europe, is kneeling and pleading to her. Rev inscription: SPQR OP[TIMO] PRINCIPI, SC in field.
