Iron, key, ring key
Iron lever lock rotary ring key. S-shaped bit with four teeth; piped cylindrical shaft; ring with lateral raised moulding. Probably for the lock of a chest or small cupboard used for personal possessions.
Rotary key-rings were a convenient way of carrying around keys as pockets were unknown. They are relatively common finds in Roman Britain, and a selection of types from Colchester can be seen in Crummy 1981, 84, fig 89.
