Leather aprons like this were worn by coalmen delivering coal to homes and businesses. An employee of Normanton Coal Company, coal suppliers based in Yorkshire, wore this one. The company was a subsidiary of the coal merchants A & H Betts Ltd of St Rule Street, Battersea.
