Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius coin of Emperor Claudius, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 41-54. The back of the coin depicts Spes, the female personification of home. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 41-42.
Obv: Laureate head of Claudius, facing right. Obv inscription: TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG PM TR P. Rev: Spes, advancing left, holding a flower in her extended right hand and raising the hem of her dress with the left. Rev inscription: SPES AVGVSTA, SC in exergue. Counterstruck with NCAPR, meaning Nero Caesar Augustus Probavit.
