Decorative arts — 1815-1816
Badge
A reception badge from the Worshipful Company of Cutlers presended to Frederick Fletcher in 1815. The elephant symbol represented the use of ivory handles in many of the cutlers' wares. An inn called the Elephant and Castle was established in the area of Newington, which was probably owned or frequented by cutlers; from which the area of Elephant and Castle gets its name.
