Decorative arts — Late 19th century
Chatelaine
Chatelaine made of copper alloy with silvered chinoiserie subjects within gilded rococco frames on the hook plate and two plaques. It is marked on the point of the hook with the initials ‘MT’, two pellets above and a star below.
This maker’s mark is also found on another chatelaine, 62.121/111. They may have been made in Germany. Both belonged to author and scholar Joan Evans (1893–1977), who donated them to the Museum. Both were illustrated in her book ‘History of Jewellery’ and identified as English, c. 1760.
