Working History — 1805
Musket, flintlock musket
In 1804 a factory was established at the Tower of London to manufacture small arms for the Board of Ordnance which supplied Britain's armed forces. This India pattern flintlock musket was a standard service weapon in the British Army.
The lock plate is stamped with the 'Tower' mark and the royal cypher of George III. Military service weapons were manufactured to government specifications in London and Birmingham. The Ordnance also had numerous depots in the British colonies where many London gunmakers found employment repairing and retrofitting weapons.
