Working History — 1763-1780
Pistol, holster pistol
This flintlock holster pistol was manufactured by William Henshaw who had a shop on the Strand. Henshaw has used Birmingham-made silver mounts. By the end of the 18th century it had become commonplace for London gunsmiths to use components manufactured in Birmingham, Britain's main rival gunmaking centre. Owing to the international prestige of the London gun trade however, Birmingham manufacturers would often mark their guns 'London' for retail.
