Printed Ephemera — 1931
Great Eastern Hotel
Charles Barry and his son, Charles Edward Barry, designed the Great Eastern Hotel adjoining Liverpool Street Station in 1884. The Hotel was extended by Colonel Robert W Edis, who also added ornate baroque plasterwork and oak panelling to the interior. The pictures in this brochure of the rooms and dining halls illustrate its opulence and glamour some 30 years after the refurbishment. The brochure lists the tariffs for rooms, sponge and hipbaths, fires, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner as well as rates for room and board for the guests' servants. A rooftop 'Squash Racquet Court' and two Masonic temples were also available.
As well as the Great Eastern and Northern Hotels in London, the London and North Eastern Railway Company owned 21 other railway hotels around England and Scotland.
