Printed Ephemera — 1845-09
To W. Spiking, French & English Bread and Biscuit Baker
Printed billhead with handwritten Invoice issued by W. Spiking, French and English bread and biscuit baker located at 5 Dover Street, Piccadilly. The invoice, dated September 1845, refers to the supply of a 'sack of raspings' or dried breadcrumbs to the Reverend W. Hasker, who lived in the village of Baughurst in Hampshire. This is one of several similar bills referring to the payment for goods supplied to the Reverend Hasker. A sack of raspings appears to be a regular order. From 1843 W. Spiking supplied oat cakes and biscuits to Queen Victoria and other members of the royal household. This entitled the baker to print the royal coat of arms on this billhead.
