Post-Medieval — C.1649
Charles I miniature
This pendant is decorated with an enamelled portrait of King Charles I to commemorate his death by execution in 1649. The king is shown wearing armour. A crown stands on a table behind him. Jewels with the king’s initials or portrait were circulated among Royalist supporters. Some were produced to inspire devotion but many were issued after his death with inscriptions: ‘Remember’ or ‘Prepared be to follow me’.
