Contracts for the supply of equipment to the New Model Army of Sir Thomas Fairfax
This book contains contracts for supplying the army of Sir Thomas Fairfax (1612-1671) in 1645 when he became Commander-in-Chief of the New Model Army. Keeping the armies supplied with men and equipment was a struggle. Soldiers often changed sides and munitions were scarce. The first item in this volume is for 2,500 pairs of stockings at 12 pence a pair. Other items include pikes, saddles, horse shoes, Dutch spades and hand grenades. One of the contracts is for 4500 leather shoes, size 10-13, from Jenkin Ellis at St Katherine by the Tower. Most contracts were with London suppliers.
