Pierced heart designed jug
Tin-glazed earthenware pear-shaped jug, decorated in blue, manganese and ochre with a dart piercing a heart, on a creamy white glaze. Some aspects of this decoration are reminiscent of Italian maiolica. The pierced heart is a symbol of love and repentance. This jug was either made in Aldgate or imported from the Low Countries.
