Post-Medieval — 16th century
Fluted cap terminal
Carving knife with blade tapering to point. The handle is possibly made from horn and has a silver ferule at the end and silver wire twisted around it. People ate with their fingers in medieval and Tudor times. The table knife served the dual function of cutting and skewering food, and meat, fish and pies were jointed, carved or sliced into manageable portions.
