Madame Saqui the Celebrated Performer on the Rope, at Vauxhall
Madame Saqui was the most famous act at Vauxhall Gardens and transformed the type of entertainments visitors came to see in the 1820s. She was an accomplished tight rope walker and was distinctive in her baggy trousers tied in at the ankle beneath an elaborately embroidered dress. On her head was a magnificent plumed helmet.
