Social History — 1991
We Are IE
One of the earliest pressings of the track "We Are IE" by Lennie De Ice.
"We are IE" became popular among London's underground DJs and producers for its unique style. It is one of the major music tracks that helped to kickstart the development of a music genre that originated in 1990s London - Jungle.
The track's combination of the Amen break, a reggae style bassline, a tempo similar to acid house, sampling and gunshot sounds taken from hip hop, rave and soundsystem culture inspired many into new musical directions, laying the foundations for Jungle.
Limited vinyl record pressings were instrumental in driving this type of musical innovation forward through competition to create and access unique sounds for raves and (often pirate) radio sets.
The music producers who created the other tracks featured on this vinyl record: Uncle 22, A-Sides and Cool Hand Flex also went on to become key figures within this music scene.
