Atmospheric depiction of 'The Thames Embankment Works between Waterloo and Blackfriars Bridges'. Signed and dated. Construction of timber framework for the embankment. Piles of timber lie on shore & figures are at work on shore & on scaffolding. Steam & sailing boats are on river. In distance is Blackfriars Bridge & dome of St. Paul's. Painting commissioned by donor's grandfather Capt. George Ernest Augustus Ross, stockbroker who died in early 1900s & had this & other London views painted: in particular buildings that were to be demolished. eg 'Sir Paul Pindar' tavern.
