Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1850-1855
Turkish Musicians
This group of Turkish musicians is seated on the ground playing to a small audience. The drawing may have been made at the Turkish Pavilion at the Great Exhibition held in Hyde Park in 1851. A French visitor to the exhibition described it like this: '...even after having visited the celebrated bazaars of Adrianopole, of Constantinople, and of Smyrna, I could hardly have expected to find so much diversity of richness and taste as in the articles that have been sent by the Levant.'
