A Bakery in Floral Street, Covent Garden
This interior view of a bakery in Covent Garden shows two bakers hard at work. While one kneads dough on the left, the other is responsible for putting the loaves in the ovens and placing them on the table to cool. Several finished baguettes and loaves can be seen in the middle ground.
A ginger cat watches the activities from his position on the ground. Pots and pans occupy the shelf on the left. Also included in the scene are bags of flour, a mechanical churner and a teapot warming by the oven (presumably in preparation for the bakers' tea break).
Alfred Miller was an amateur artist who was active during the mid twentieth century and although painted in 1959 this work relates to the period 1934.
