The Tiled Kitchen
This painting shows the painter's daughter, Janet, washing dishes in the kitchen of the family home at 19 Queensland Avenue in the South London suburb of Merton. Modern kitchens supplied with running water, gas, electricity and the latest appliances were a key attraction of the newbuild suburban homes.
Harry Bush, known as the 'Painter of the Suburbs', and his wife lived at this Merton address from 1914 until the end of their lives.
