Boxing Match at Albert Hall
Spotlights illuminate the boxing ring where a competitor has his arms raised either in celebration or preparation. Dressed in a black tuxedo, the ring announcer gestures to the side of the picture, possibly to the opponent across the ring. Although it is not possible to identify the particular fight depicted here, Raymond Wylie's image is a rare post-war painted record of the Albert Hall's sporting activities. In 1886, following the introduction of an additional charter, the Hall was used for a wide range of events and boxing matches were held there from that date onwards.
