John, Dr Hickey Surgery, 2020
John had been let out of prison the day before this photograph was taken near the Dr Hickey Surgery during the first Covid-19 lockdown as part of the government's plan to release thousands of inmates early to protect them from the spread of Covid-19 in UK prisons. He said that if he had been released a day later he would have received a discharge grant of £46, but instead he was released from prison with just a travel warrant and a bus ticket. "How am I supposed to eat?" he said. With restaurants and shops closed, and public toilets and charging points cordoned off, the drop-in health care service for homeless people in Westminster has been a life-line for many during lockdown.
Part of a project by Grey Hutton documenting the founders, volunteers and users of a range of local charities and community organisations during the Covid-19 pandemic.
